What is BORDERLINE700?
BORDERLINE700 is a cycling adventure all about pushing limits, embracing the unknown and adding a touch of madness to the ride.
Is it a race?
Borderline700 is a self-supported ultra-endurance challenge.
While there is a leaderboard and we track your time, legally speaking it is not a race. The event takes place on open public roads and you must obey all traffic laws at all times. How you approach the challenge is up to you: some riders push their limits for a fast time, while others treat it as a pure adventure.
How long is the race?
It is one long stage of about 700 km with roughly 5,000 meters of elevation gain. You have a time limit of 60 hours (2.5 days) to complete the challenge.
Don’t worry if you take a little longer. You are still welcome to cross the finish line and complete your journey, but your result will be listed as OOC (Out Of Classification) on the final leaderboard.
Who is BORDERLINE700 for?
BORDERLINE700 is for anyone with a sense of adventure. Whether you’re a beginner taking on your first big cycling challenge, or a seasoned rider using it as the perfect preparation for the season ahead, this event is about pushing your own limits at your own pace. You don’t need to be a pro just motivated to ride, explore and see how far you can go.
What do I need to participate?
A reliable bike (no e-bikes), proper gear for self-supported riding, a decent level of fitness, and—most importantly—a good dose of courage.
How long does it take?
To make the official ranking, you must complete the route within 60 hours. Finishing later is no problem at all! You will still be welcomed at the finish line and recognized as a finisher, but your result will be listed as OOC (Out Of Classification). Your completion is what matters!
What does self-supported mean?
Being self-supported means you complete the Borderline700 entirely on your own — without any outside assistance. You carry your own gear, find your own food, water, and rest, and handle problems yourself. Only resources that are publicly available to all riders — like repair shops, cafés and hotels — may be used. No team cars, friends or family support are allowed.
It’s just you, your bike and the road.
Can I ride solo or in pairs?
Yes! You can sign up either as a solo rider or as a pair. If you ride solo, you must cycle independently and cannot draft behind other riders. If you register as a pair, you are allowed to ride together, support each other, and share the workload.
What is the Race Manual and why is it important?
The Race Manual is your essential guide to the Borderline700. It covers all the rules, what gear you need, how checkpoints work, and what self-supported means. Reading it is mandatory for all participants, as you will sign an agreement confirming you accept its contents.
