The Route

GOUDA - ROUBAIX - GOUDA

The Dutch Start

The journey begins in Gouda. The opening segment of the Borderline700 takes riders through the true, authentic Dutch countryside. Cyclists will navigate narrow dikes, endless green polders, and pass iconic historic windmills. Enjoy the flat tarmac and smooth roads while you can, as the peaceful Dutch scenery gently eases you into the calm before the ultimate mental and physical storm.

The Flemish Ardennes

As riders cross the border into Belgium, the flat roads disappear, and the real climbing begins. Welcome to the holy cycling grounds of the Flemish Ardennes, home of the legendary Tour of Flanders. This punishing terrain will test your legs with short, vicious, and brutal steep climbs. To make it through, you must battle your way over the most feared vertical walls in cycling history.

Climbs:

  • Muur van Geraardsbergen
  • Kanarieberg
  • Oude Kruisberg
  • Paterberg
  • Oude Kwaremont

The Turning Point – Roubaix

Crossing into Northern France brings you face-to-face with the legendary, bone-shaking cobblestone sectors of Paris-Roubaix. After conquering these rough sectors, riders reach the absolute highlight and turning point of the race: the historic Velodrome of Roubaix. Here, you get to ride a mythic final lap on the concrete track, just like cycling's greatest heroes. Before finding a spot to sleep inside the historic building, you can wash away the dust and sweat in the famous, mythic Paris-Roubaix showers.

Cobblestone sectors:

  • Camphin-en-Pévèle ****
  • Carrefour de l'Arbre *****
  • Sector Hem

Heuvelland

The way back leads you through the stunning, rolling hills of Heuvelland on the France-Belgium border. These are longer, flowing climbs that will cut deep into your remaining energy after hundreds of kilometers. Challenge yourself on the heights where classic spring races are decided, and enjoy the views before heading back towards Gouda.

Climbs:

  • Kemmelberg
  • Mont Noir
  • Mont Kokereel
  • Mont des Cats
  • Mont de Boeschepe

Windswept Zeeland

Once out of the hills, the final major obstacle of the Borderline700 awaits: the wide-open plains and stormy barriers of Zeeland. With no trees or hills to block it, you will face your ultimate enemy—the brutal, relentless North Sea wind. Battle the elements across the massive Deltaworks dams and open dikes as you head home towards the glorious finish line in Gouda.

Checkpoints remain accessible until their designated cut-off time. Once a cut-off time passes, the checkpoint will close, volunteers will depart, and stamps will no longer be available. Riders arriving after the cut-off time will be marked as OOC (Out of General Classification).

🤫 Silence Please
We are guests in these locations. When arriving or leaving at night, please keep noise to an absolute minimum to respect our volunteers' sleep and the local residents.

🚫 Sleeping Rules
Checkpoints are intended for short stops (stamps & refills) and are not setup for sleeping, with the exception of CP2 (Van Rysel Café / Roubaix), where indoor floor space for a power nap is available. Aside from CP2, riders must arrange their own rest spots along the route in line with the self-supported ethos.
